Why We Use Accoya®

At Britannia Woodworking, we’re proud to be approved manufacturers of Accoya® timber products—an exceptional material that sets a new benchmark for performance, sustainability, and durability in external joinery.

What is Accoya®?

Accoya® is a modified timber made using a non-toxic process called acetylation, which changes the wood at a molecular level. This process dramatically improves its durability, stability, and resistance to the elements—making it an ideal choice for doors, windows, and any external joinery that needs to stand the test of time.

Why we choose Accoya®:

  • Incredible durability – Class 1 durability (the highest possible rating), with a 50-year above-ground and 25-year below-ground warranty.

  • Outstanding stability – Minimal swelling and shrinking, reducing the risk of warping, sticking or jamming in all weather conditions.

  • Low maintenance – Because Accoya® holds coatings and paints so well, it looks better for longer and requires less frequent repainting.

  • Sustainably sourced – Made from fast-growing, FSC® certified softwood and treated with a completely non-toxic process.

How we use Accoya®

We use Accoya® across a wide range of our bespoke external joinery projects, including:

  • Bespoke timber windows

  • External doors and entranceways

  • Sliding sash and casement windows

  • Orangeries and garden rooms

  • Heritage restoration work

Its incredible durability and weather resistance makes Accoya the perfect material for the UK climate, whether we’re matching a traditional design or creating something completely bespoke.
